Originally designed for screen slide shows only, many customers turn to it for poster layouts...  not what we would recommend, but some manage to make it work.  The key is starting with your layout at 24"x36" (or whatever your poster's final size would be) and not starting at letter size.  Next, you will want to make sure the resolution is set to print quality (300 dpi is fine) and not web/screen quality (which is 72dpi).
